Creating a Registry That Reflects Your Life, Not Just Your List

Make a registry that feels entirely your own — thoughtfully personal, naturally effortless, and inspired by the life you’re excited to build together.

Welcome to Ada & Love Registry at Ralph Lauren Chicago.

Starting a registry is often seen as a task—something to check off before a wedding or a new chapter begins. But from what I’ve experienced working in the Home Department at Ralph Lauren Chicago Flagship, it’s so much more than that. A registry is really about building the foundation of your future home. It’s about choosing pieces that you’ll live with, host with, and create memories around.

The way I approach registry appointments is simple: it should feel personal, not overwhelming. Instead of scrolling through endless options, we slow things down and focus on what actually fits your lifestyle. Some clients come in with a clear vision, and that’s always helpful—but if you don’t, that’s completely okay too. We’ll figure it out together. Once you start seeing pieces in person and imagining them in your future space, things tend to come together naturally.

I also always encourage clients to think about their space. Is this your long-term home, or are you planning to move in the next few years? Do you have room for larger pieces, or do you need items that store easily? These details matter more than people expect. A thoughtful registry should not only look beautiful, but also work effortlessly within your everyday life.

When it comes to selecting items, I recommend starting with the essentials—dinnerware, glassware, bedding. These are the pieces you’ll reach for every day. From there, we build in layers. At the same time, it’s important to think about longevity. Choose pieces that will last, both in quality and in style. A timeless plate, a well-made set of linens, or a functional serving piece should feel just as right years from now. If something isn’t practical or doesn’t fit your routine, it may not be the right choice.

One of the things I love most about Ralph Lauren Home is how the collections naturally support this approach. There’s a sense of timeless, tailored elegance that never feels overdone. Some pieces reflect a more classic, heritage-inspired style, while others feel clean and modern. It allows you to create a home that feels layered and personal, and one that can evolve with you over time.

I also remind clients that you don’t have to choose everything at once. It’s easy to feel like you need to complete your entire registry in one appointment, especially if you bring your partner or family. While I always recommend bringing your significant other to be part of the experience and select a few meaningful pieces together, there’s no pressure to finalize everything right away. It can actually feel overwhelming. We can always revisit, add, or adjust your registry later as your needs become clearer.

In many ways, I like to think of this service as part of your wedding planning process. We’re here to make things easier for you, to guide you, and to help you feel confident in your choices. It should feel enjoyable, not stressful. We also always welcome new ideas and suggestions—this is your story, after all.

At the end of the day, a registry isn’t just a collection of products. It’s the beginning of how you’ll live. The dinners you’ll host, the quiet mornings you’ll have, the moves you may make, and the life that grows around it. When chosen thoughtfully, these pieces stay with you—not just physically, but as part of your story.

We’d love to welcome you in and begin that process together.
